The revitalization of Downtown Lubbock has been years in the making and we aren’t done yet. Over the past decade, investments to the area have been a culmination of small steps, big leaps, and taken risks. For most of 2023, we worked on one of those leaps. Introducing: Downtown LBK’s new look.
There are two phases of this project–a rebrand and a new website. Our mission and goal in Downtown LBK is to help drive the heart of our city into a new, modern era. Like the Downtown community, the new website and branding are vibrant, innovative, and lively. And because the community is who made this possible, we’re thrilled to share it with you.
Downtown LBK Rebrand
Our goal was to align our brand with the greater Lubbock community brand, while bringing a modern, progressive feel to a look that allows downtown to stand out. Downtown is an epicenter of culture, creativity, energy, and booming economic growth–and we wanted to create a look that reflects that.
Downtown LBK Website
We’ve said it before–Downtown Lubbock is a place to work, eat, shop, play, and stay. We wanted a website that highlighted every aspect of the heart of our city, transporting you with only a few clicks. We believe downtown should be as accessible as possible. Whether someone explores our website as a Lubbock local, a passing-through visitor, or an established member of our community–we want it to serve as their thorough road map and guide of the beloved area.
For someone unfamiliar with downtown, they can learn more about DLBK and its history.
Downtown is an exciting, happening place to live. Resident hopefuls can explore available living spaces.
New businesses open downtown monthly, and we want to continue to support that growth. That’s why we included resources for someone dreaming of DLBK entrepreneurship.
And for those journeying to the area for a bit of fun, an events schedule and map of downtown businesses are easy to find.
The Why of It All
The why? You. The effort spent brainstorming and planning, networking and implementing this project is to support the community that made it all possible.
We’d like you to meet some of the people a part of the community we’re so proud to serve–just a few individuals who share the same mission of reigniting a passion for Downtown Lubbock.
Meet Angela Nash Blackwell, Managing Partner & Chef of Nashwell Cafe
Angela Nash Blackwell made a move across the world from Australia when she fell in love with a Lubbock local and her fellow managing partner, Jonathan.
Although she’s been transplanted in Lubbock, Angela loves Australia and wanted to bring her culture, one she says closely aligns with Texas, to our area. What that meant for her: a thriving downtown.
She described the downtown areas in Australia as ones that were walkable, booming with business, and full of life, and when she moved to Lubbock in 2015, she knew there was work to do in DLBK.
“Just a sense of community and bringing things back to the center of town. Because the more the merrier… to have a thriving downtown, that is the kind of place where you would be able to bring visitors to, and they can enjoy some time without needing to Uber or taxi.”
Through delicious coffee and pastries made with Aussie love, Angela is helping create the downtown area she once envisioned for our city.
Meet Bailey Alexander, Downtown LBK resident & photographer
Bailey moved to Downtown Lubbock from Wolfforth in February of 2023. Originally, his idea of moving downtown was fueled by his desire to be closer to work at Primitive, a downtown digital marketing agency where he serves as a photographer and video producer.
But as he’s settled into the area, Bailey has discovered the accessibility and social aspect of downtown has made it an exciting place to live.
“I can pretty much stop by anywhere now and usually see somebody that I know and have a conversation… You may have a spot that you go to where you know people, and being able to see four or five different people that you know, that’s community.”
Outside of work, Bailey enjoys making music, spending time with his dog, Lily, playing disc golf and hanging out with friends. He says he loves that he can bike or walk to most places he needs to go. If not, it’s just a short drive.
“It’s nice having an evening where I can do it all within three blocks of where I live. I can walk, and it's just a fun atmosphere.“
Meet Yvonne Ndungu, LEDA intern & recent Texas Tech University graduate
Yvonne recently graduated from Texas Tech with a University Studies degree with an emphasis on human resource development, organizational leadership and psychology. She’s now working with Visit Lubbock as an intern, hoping to turn that opportunity into a career in the future.
Yvonne says she loves the culture of downtown and wishes more people realized the opportunities of the area.
Working with a civic organization like Visit Lubbock, Yvonne has big plans for the area, applying her degree in organizational leadership to work. Minds like hers are why downtown has started to thrive the way it has.
Aside from the food, events and culture, Yvonne’s main reason she thinks you should visit DLBK:
“First, just to have a better life, just to wake up and be happier, just go downtown.”
We had a few goals when realizing this project–the more obvious being to grow our Downtown Lubbock community. We hope these new changes accurately portray the history and future of DLBK, serving as a visual representation of the endless possibilities and opportunities waiting to be taken advantage of.
Another is that these updates should feel like a reflection of you. We want you to feel supported and represented. The Downtown Lubbock community is why we do what we do.
And we’re just getting started.
