We caught up with Brad Moran, fundraising chair for the Lubbock Downtown Park, to get exciting updates on its progress, features, and what to expect.
What’s the current status of the park?
Right now, the project is still in the fundraising stage, and they’ve had a lot of success. The park is privately funded, and so far, $7.1 million has been raised toward the $12.4 million goal.
The team has been working tirelessly to bring this park to life for our community. From the fundraising team to the TBG Group, who designed the park, their hard work is bringing even more culture to the downtown scene.
So, when will the park open?
While there’s no official date yet, there is a projected timeline.
Construction will begin once the final $2.1 million in funding is raised, and we’re excited to be so close to reaching that goal!
The team is aiming to wrap up fundraising and start building the park in 2025. They anticipate construction will take about one year to complete.
What should people look forward to?
Where to begin! For starters, the park is going to feature amazing amenities for everyone in the community to enjoy:
- Concert stage
- Bathrooms
- Family zone
- Splash pad
- Shady plaza
- Public garden
- Food truck court
- Rock garden for kids
- Pet relief area
- Greenspace (with real grass!)
The game zone will have corn hole, chess, checkers, and ping pong for a little friendly competition.
It gets even better. There are plans for yearly, monthly, and weekly events like a free concert series and exercise classes. The park will also offer rentable spaces, perfect for birthday celebrations, corporate gatherings, and more.
How will the park contribute to downtown revitalization efforts?
Downtown Lubbock has so much to offer, and the park will be a catalyst for its transformation. It will provide a gathering space for those who live and work downtown, giving locals a beautiful outdoor area to meet friends, go for a walk, and participate in community events.
Evidence of this transformation is already underway with the up-and-coming Broadway Market. This innovative space will add yet another layer of dining options for families, young adults, and Lubbock visitors.
