Vince Vasquez: Living His Best Life Downtown

Vince Vasquez: Living His Best Life Downtown

For Vince Vasquez, Downtown Lubbock isn’t just an address—it’s his way of life. From the tight-knit community to the walkable, on-the-go lifestyle, Vince wouldn’t trade downtown living for anything.

A Texas Tech grad and lifelong West Texan, Vince has spent his entire adult life living or working downtown. By day, he’s a banker at Capra Bank, using his financial expertise to help businesses grow. By night, he’s a co-owner of Shotgun Sue’s at 1718 Buddy Holly, a lively downtown saloon he runs with his business partner, Tim Tremoni.

"Where everybody knows your name..."

Living in Downtown Lubbock means simplicity and connection for Vince. He doesn’t have to worry about yard work, home maintenance, or a long commute. “I can get anywhere really quickly from downtown,” he explains. “I can be at 77th and Milwaukee in thirteen minutes.”

Plus, he's got a beautiful view from his condo of the downtown scene.

Vince lives in the Pioneer Condos, one of Downtown Lubbock’s most sought-after residential spaces. With local beers of The Brewery LBK and eclectic eats of The West Table downstairs, his community is just an elevator ride away.

“When I've had a busy day, and I’m not going to Shotgun Sue’s, it’s easy to go downstairs and see people. It’s almost like Cheers, you know?” he says.

Downtown Lubbock isn’t just convenient—it’s safe and welcoming. Vince loves having Colbert’s General Store nearby for everyday essentials, but what really stands out is the strong sense of security.

As both a business owner and resident, he’s been impressed with how hands-on the Lubbock Police Department is in keeping downtown safe. “They communicate so well with businesses and people downtown. They sincerely want everyone to enjoy downtown and have a good time,” Vince says.

A Prime Location for Entrepreneurs

When Vince and Tim decided to open Shotgun Sue’s, Downtown Lubbock was the obvious choice to invest. They loved the history and character of the area, and they let the building guide their vision. The space had previously been an old Irish pub, and when they walked in for the first time, inspiration struck. “It just looked like a saloon,” Vince recalls. “It’s like a shotgun-style bar.”

The downtown community embraced Shotgun Sue’s right away. Events like First Friday Art Trail and Mo’s Markets bring in foot traffic, creating a steady flow of customers. “There’s a ton of [foot] traffic,” Vince says. “First Friday Art Trail is one of our biggest nights.”

While Vince would not say this himself, Shotgun Sue’s is a big deal to Lubbock locals. With five stars on Google Reviews, patrons simply rave about it: “This is the bar of bars in the 806!”

Their success speaks volumes. For motivated business owners like Vince looking to set up shop, Downtown Lubbock's tight-knit community helps your businesses thrive.

Thinking About Making the Move?

If you’ve ever considered living downtown, take it from Vince, “If you’re a business professional, if you’re on the go a lot, if you travel, or if you just like that type of community where you’re amongst a group of people, then I would absolutely say try it,” Vince says.

Whether you’re an entrepreneur, a young professional, or someone who just loves being in the middle of the action, Downtown Lubbock has something for you.
