Located between Broadway and 13th street and Avenues L and M, the city is building a Downtown civic park that will span an entire city block.
The area is designed to encompass attractions for every person who lives in the Hub City and bring our community together in ways we’ve never experienced before.
Although construction isn’t due to be complete until the fall of 2024… we’re giving you an inside look at the vision, construction plans, and renderings of the park.
Get excited. It’s going to be a new era for Downtown Lubbock.
Vision
The Lubbock Downtown Park is designed to be a program and event-oriented public space.
The true vision of the park is for it to be the center and the hub of Broadway–a walkable, vibrant area of Downtown full of shops, mixed-use office spaces, an indoor market, and housing.
Leadership in the community hopes the park is a catalyst for other revitalization projects in Downtown.
Fundraising
The Lubbock Downtown Park has been made possible by using funds from private donations, grants from charitable organizations, and funds set aside for Downtown improvement projects. The fundraising goal is $12.4 million. As of September of 2022, $5.5 million has been raised.
Features
Family Zone
The Family Zone will be one of the main features in the new park. It will provide shade, seating, bathrooms, and a donor recognition wall. It is also conveniently located right next to the Splash Pad!
Splash Pad
Beat the Texas heat and cool down at the Lubbock Downtown Park Splash Pad! The interactive water feature is intended for the kiddos, but is welcome to anyone visiting the park.
Stage Pavilion
Live performances, anyone? The Stage Pavilion will be built to bring Lubbock live music, comedy, dance, and theatrical events. The life and vibrancy this component of the park will bring is hoped to foster community connection and meaningful social interactions.
Food Truck Grove
One thing about Lubbock: it is a city full of foodies. Not only will food trucks be able to provide service during pavilion events, but during daytime lunch hours.
Public Art Area
Downtown Lubbock has always been home to the arts in our city and that doesn’t stop at the park. This space’s purpose is to feature sculptures and other art from local, regional, and national artists.
Downtown Greenspace
In dusty West Texas, we cherish green grass and trees wherever we can find them. This Downtown greenspace will be perfect for a picnic, yard games, or watching a concert at the pavilion.
Gamezone
Who doesn’t love a little friendly competition? The Gamezone will feature ping pong tables, cornhole sets, and equipment available for checkout from park staff.
Shady Plaza
This area will feature plenty of seating under a span of shady trees.
Pet Relief Area
To maintain the beauty of Downtown, the park will feature a pet relief area for any four-legged friends that visit the park with you! A nearby water fountain will also be available to fill any water bowls you bring along.
Rock Garden
The Lubbock Downtown Park is bringing some elevation to the South Plains! The Rock Garden will include intentionally placed boulder piles for kids and adventurers to climb on, providing a beautiful view of the park in its entirety.
