If you’ve spent long enough in Lubbock, you’ve been asked the question. “What is there to do there?” People expect dust, tractors, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Fortunately for the ones who do call Lubbock home, the city has grown exponentially in the last 10 years or so, and that includes Downtown. 

The perfect answer for that dreaded question, among others, is the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market. West Texans from Lubbock and surrounding towns come together every Saturday from 9 a.m.-1p.m. at 19th Street and Buddy Holly Avenue to share their small businesses and passions with one another– buying and selling goods with their community. 

We think it’s worth talking about, so we’re sharing it with you.

The best vendors in LBK 

This is where you’re going to find some of the best vendors Lubbock and the surrounding areas have to offer. Whether you’re searching for something in particular, or just wanting Saturday plans, you’re guaranteed to happen upon a gem of a find you can’t go home without. From freshly brewed coffee, to colorful, ripe produce, and one-of-a-kind hand-crafted home goods– the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market has it all. 

While you shop and enjoy the Texas summer weather, you can also grab a bite to eat at a number of food trucks that surround the vendor booths. Shopping AND eating local. What more could you ask for?

You can find a list of vendors at every market here, but we’re going to give you a look at the latest market so you can get an idea of what to expect. 

Onion Shed Farms: Yukon gold potatoes, onions, garlic, squash, zucchini, duck eggs, garlic salt, jalapeno salt, sriracha salt, chili lime finishing salt, lemon pepper finishing salt, pecans.

Blondie’s Salsa: Salsa including their famous Dill Pickle Salsa, charro beans, brisket queso, jams and jellies, BBQ sauce, boiled peanuts and more.

Flatcity Farms: Fresh, locally grown flower bouquets and pressed flower frames.

Adelphos Cellars: 100% Texas wines, bottled at a winery facility in northeast Lubbock county, and made primarily from grapes grown at their estate vineyard in the same location.

Clean Days Soap Co.: Handcrafted soaps, lotions, salves, teas, & lavender pillows.

Short and Sweets Bakery: A variety of homemade sweets featuring  popular french macarons, decorated cookies, and a mixture of traditional cookies.

Mama Made That Crafts and Creations: Vinyl t-shirts, 14-inch hand-painted door hangers, keychains, decals, horseshoe crosses, and small painted round boards.

Community meets community 

Making it out to the Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market is a great way to get involved in the community. When shopping from the vendors you’ll find there, you’re purchasing produce and goods from small, family-owned businesses that call West Texas home. 

If you’re looking for a way to give back to this community, visiting the market and purchasing goods from the vendors you find there is an incredible opportunity to do so. 

A look into DLBK history

While you’re there, you get a beautiful snapshot of Downtown Lubbock in the historic Depot District– known for its nightlife and live music venues.  

To the left of the market, you’ll find the Cactus Theater. The building was built in 1938 and served as Lubbock’s first neighborhood theater for 20 years. For 30 years after that… the building was left abandoned, serving as a storage facility for scrap metal. But in the 90’s, the Cactus was given a second chance at life and has served as a live performance venue since 1995. 

Across 19th street from the market is a wall that features imagery of Lubbock’s rich history.

Buddy Holly put Lubbock on the map and we’re proud of that. Holly was a singer/songwriter and is considered a pioneer of 1950s Rock and Roll music. The mural you’ll see during your visit includes Buddy himself, members of his band, “The Crickets,” and his bride, María. 

So not only can you shop and eat during your time at the market, but experience decades of DLBK history preserved in time.
